The Night Sky... Part III

Star Gazing in August:

Moon will be in New phase August 11.

Mercury will be in opposition to the sun this month, rising with the setting sun and setting with the sunrise. Mercury will be best for viewing the week of the 7th.

Venus will be at its greatest elongation from the Sun and can be seen in Virgo in the evening hours. Mars too can be seen in this time and place.

Jupiter is still in Pisces constellation in early morning.

In the evening sky Saturn will still be in Virgo this month.

Perseid's Meteor Shower should peak around August 12, 13th. So we'll have to be on the look out for shooting stars.

Also I'd like to look at the sky in the early evening on the 13th for the triple conjunction of Mars, Venus and Jupiter all to be located near the crescent.

We are lucky enough to do our star-gazing this month in North Manitou island in Lake Michigan.
