Black Pine Animal Sanctuary
I think we will make a trip here. Will post more.
We finally had the opportunity to go.

All the stars were in line and weather cooperated for our day the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary. We arrived around 11:00 am, just in time for one of the two free guided tours they offer each day. The entire campus can be covered with plenty of time at each station in a matter of a couple hours. Because of the small size our visit seemed very personal and was extremely enjoyable because of so very few crowds. They allow for pack lunches and have a covered picnic area for visitors. Oyster crackers can be purchased for very reasonable prices at the main desk to feed the petting animals in the yard. The ostrich is very friendly and apparently very hungry!
Mara really liked seeing the male lion and he even showed off his voice by giving us several very rhythmic and guttural calls.
My favorite was the Cockatoo. I think I could have watched Peaches for hours. Perhaps he likes to show off for everyone, but when I waved at him it seemed as though he was waving back at us with that beautiful crest of his on his head.
All in all it was a great trip. The animals seem to be very well cared for and because many of them would have been otherwise euthanized or mistreated in some way, the animals seem to appreciate the mission of Black Pine in a way you don't usually see at a zoo.
