Yes, another homeschooling blog...

P'once a little time there was a girl. This girl grew up to be a Mamma to three little girls all very much like herself. And this little Mamma knew she just had to have a place of her own to keep all things home school right at her fingertips.

Vowels and Consonants on the Farm

Vowels and Consonants on the Farm

There are two kinds of letters: vowels and consonants.  The vowel letters are a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. All other letters are consonants.

Read the following words which all follow the same pattern.

pig                  cat                  dog                  hen                  sun

Is the first letter of each word a vowel or a consonant?

Is the middle letter of each word a vowel or a consonant?

Is the last letter of each word vowel or a consonant?

Is this the letter pattern in each word?
            consonant-vowel-consonant

How many vowels does each word have?

How many consonants does each word have?

Do the words have a short vowel or a long vowel?

Look at the words on the left. Write the letters in the chart to show the consonant-vowel-consonant pattern.
