Vowels and Consonants on the Farm
There are two kinds of letters: vowels and consonants. The vowel letters are a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. All other letters are consonants.
Read the following words which all follow the same pattern.
pig cat dog hen sun
Is the first letter of each word a vowel or a consonant?
Is the middle letter of each word a vowel or a consonant?
Is the last letter of each word vowel or a consonant?
Is this the letter pattern in each word?

How many vowels does each word have?
How many consonants does each word have?
Do the words have a short vowel or a long vowel?
Look at the words on the left. Write the letters in the chart to show the consonant-vowel-consonant pattern.
