Yes, another homeschooling blog...

P'once a little time there was a girl. This girl grew up to be a Mamma to three little girls all very much like herself. And this little Mamma knew she just had to have a place of her own to keep all things home school right at her fingertips.

Week 1

Hoorah! We are finally able to begin our school year. Mara (and I) couldn't be more pleased.

A Child's History of the World:  Chapters 1-5
We are really trying to take it slow with this book, as we'd like to digest the content. We are discussing the ancients cultures that grew from the Euphrates, Tigris, Niles, Indus and Huang rivers. Mara will be taking a look at what Cuneiform writing looks like and making a letter to a couple friends back home using these ancient symbols. We will also be visiting a local museum to look at weapons and things made during the bronze age in the Mesopotamia area.

Chapters 1 and 2 Vocabulary: classification, taxonomy. Store classification assignment and classify items from her luggage into her closet (wink, wink). Part of our Science time is Mara reading her text with key information aloud.

Reading: We finished up The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, by C.S. Lewis.
                    The Wild Cats of Rome
The Tanglewood Tales by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Italian: We are using the Pimsleur Italian lesson 15.

Number Practice: We had a review of how to properly write numbers prior to beginning our math workbook.
    Copywork and memorization: Proverbs 31:31
Daily Journaling. One sentence is required with a picture, although she is free to write more if she feels like doing so.

Parts of a sentence: Sentences begin with a Capital letter, then lower case are used. Spaces in between words, and basic punctuation.
Nouns and Proper nouns. -Made a noun list and learned a song about nouns; doing a worksheet to underline the subject noun of simple sentences.  - Matin's Latin Lesson 1.
